YFTS Spotlight: Kara Frazier
Our YFTS Spotlight Series features singers, artists, and musicians who have experienced the benefits of yoga in their lives and careers.
Hey Kara! Thanks for chatting with YFTS! Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? What do you do?
Of course! I’m so happy that you asked me to do this. I’m an old soul by nature, and it just so happens that I love old soul music. I’m a singer-songwriter and vocal coach based in Nashville, but I’m originally from Jacksonville, Florida. I’ve released 3 studio EP’s plus a string of singles independently and I’m about to embark on my most ambitious release journey since I started releasing music in 2018!
What inspired you to start practicing yoga?
I started doing hot yoga with my Dad in high school. He absolutely swears by yoga and it’s health benefits, so I decided to try it with him and I’m so glad I did! During college, I was on and off with yoga due to my busy schedule, but when I graduated college, it became my favorite choice of exercise and I’m now practicing more than ever.
How has yoga affected you and your vocal journey?
Yoga has helped me stay centered mentally while also allowing me to physically work my body. My breath control and ability to get a full breath in my diaphragm has completely transformed since I’ve consistently practiced yoga this past year.
What are some stretches and poses that help you as a singer?
I love a classic downward dog, tree pose and triangle to get my stretch on and get my breath moving.
What would you say to other singers and creatives who might be hesitant to try yoga?
Do it!!! Start today. You will never regret it. Take a class with the amazingly talented Kacey if you’re in Nashville!
